"DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!"

With the selection of Kevin McHale as the new head coach of the Houston Rockets, many are left wondering is the “hype” enough to propel the team to a level whereby they are now a team to either be feared on the court or they can now become high contenders for the 2012 championship.  As we can see with this year’s championship results, hype does not win championships!!

At the end of last season, we saw how LeBron James defected from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat in pursuit of the ring and the media hyped up the new Miami Heat alliance of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

Although I am not a Mavericks fan, but when you think about it, this is about the only way this NBA season should have played out. This whole despicable episode of Miami trying to corner the market on top players in an effort to snatch a championship was an embarrassment from the start. It’s not that any team with money shouldn’t try to use it to get a good core group of players, but the way it went down from the beginning was just plain trifling.


The arrogance of LeBron was totally inexcusable.  He snubbed his nose at competitors and taunted any fan who jeered at him with remarks like ''they have to wake up tomorrow and have the same life they had before.”  It is not only silly, but it’s juvenile.  Where is his PR rep?  I guess after waking up Monday morning his life was the same life as before.


Well, with the “loss of the ring”, he got his nose rubbed in it and maybe, just maybe, he has learned a bit of something called humility.  That may be wishful thinking on my part, but if his behavior continues, he will have to learn his lessons the hard way!!  The longer this goes on, the longer it will take him to win a championship, and it’s only going to get worse.  I would suggest that he stop believing the hype and get back to attacking the basket, driving the lane and commanding a game that really matters.


Rockets please take note! Pull your resources together and get a core team that the Houston fans can embrace as a viable contender in this league.  Don't believe the hype!!
